The Royal Alberta College (RAC), a distinguished not-for-profit institution in Alberta, proudly announces the evolution of its Blue Seal program, now enhanced by its national Skills Build Project. This evolution heralds the Blue Seal Nexus 2.0, a testament to RAC's commitment to making Canadian online, self-paced education both more accessible and affordable

Understanding the unique challenges faced by tradespeople, many of whom juggle demanding work schedules and responsibilities, RAC prioritized the “Blue Seal” online self-paced format. This approach ensures tradespeople don’t have to sacrifice their livelihood to pursue further education.

The foundational Blue Seal program, developed in collaboration with IBM Canada, was RAC’s initial response to the evolving needs of modern learners and the ever-changing business world. Recognizing the increasing demand for tradespeople to diversify their business skills, RAC embarked on a journey of innovation, leading to the more accessible and cost-effective Blue Seal Nexus 2.0. This revamped version offers an even more comprehensive, user-friendly learning experience, meticulously designed by experts.

RAC’s National Skills Build Program, with its thriving community of approximately 10,000 online learners boasting an 80% success rate, focuses on upskilling and reskilling Canadians. This program provides a plethora of no-cost training opportunities, targeting skills essential for entry and mid-level positions in business and tech roles. Supported by global partners like IBM, Microsoft, and Google, Prof. Chahal, RAC’s Executive Director, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Alberta is known for its hardworking tradespeople. It’s our duty at RAC to leverage global expertise to benefit our local tradespeople and those across Canada.”

Prof. Perry Chahal lauded the exceptional team behind Nexus 2.0, saying, “The original Blue Seal was a remarkable achievement, but Nexus 2.0 showcases the collective brilliance, dedication, and synergy of our team.”

Dr. Monica, BS.c., B.Ed., MA, Ph.D., and Jennifer Carol, B.Ed., with their vast classroom experience across diverse socio-economic landscapes and deep-rooted expertise in curriculum development, have been instrumental in shaping the Nexus project. Their combined insights ensure the program is not only relevant but also accessible and intuitive. Recognizing the varied learning styles, they’ve incorporated multimedia tools, including videos, easy-to-read content, and text-to-audio functionalities.

The inclusion of dynamic Gen Z members has further enriched the program. Luke Momberquette, BS.c, champions quality assurance, while Michael Durodola’s on-camera charisma and Chloe Samolia’s innovative design are set to amplify the program’s appeal. The technological edge is provided by computer science genius, Ikram Shire and her protegee Megan Nguyen, ensuring the program remains at the forefront of accessible innovation.

Chahal summarized, “Our team is more than just a group of individuals; it’s a harmonious blend of diverse talents, each contributing uniquely, ensuring Nexus 2.0 surpasses the educational aspirations of our learners.”

Endorsed by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board (AIT Board), the Blue Seal Nexus 2.0 is tailored for Alberta’s certified trade and occupational professionals. Recognized by the Government of Alberta (GOA), RAC invites eligible candidates to elevate their credentials through this program, which epitomizes technical mastery and business adaptability. Graduates will receive an accredited certificate and transcript.

[Background: The Achievement in Business Competencies program, or the Blue Seal program, was initiated by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board in 1997. It was designed to acknowledge and promote business studies undertaken by Alberta-certified trade and occupational certificate holders. To qualify for an Alberta Blue Seal, applicants must be certified in an Alberta-recognized trade or occupation and complete a minimum of 150 hours of classroom study in one or more Board-approved business subject areas.]
